We have some heartwarming news to share! The incredible generosity of the Gold Coast Community Fund has already helped a number of our clients and they have recently helped fund an accessible bike for one of our clients, Aspen. The Gold Coast Community Fund is a group of businesses and volunteers who raise money to help charities and individuals living on the Gold Coast. The Gold Coast Community Fund was established in early 2000 and has already given over $4.5 million to worthy causes across the city.

Aspen is a spirited 9-year-old with a contagious enthusiasm for life despite facing some tough challenges. At just three years old, Aspen bravely underwent surgery to remove a brain tumor, but the journey didn’t end there. Due to trauma from the surgery, Aspen developed Cerebral Palsy, a neurological condition that affects her ability to move. Aspen diagnosis means she has difficulties participating in activities that other childer her age are able to do. Aspen’s cerebral palsy affects her balance and coordination and causes her to fatigue quickly when participating in physical activity.

Despite these challenges, Aspen and her family are passionate about staying active and getting out in nature. They have always hoped to be able to go on family bike rides, but Aspen’s physical limitations have made it difficult for her to ride a standard bike. That’s where the Gold Coast Community Fund stepped in to help. Thanks to their support, Aspen now has a specially adapted bike that’s equipped with training wheels for stability and powered by electricity to help reduce the fatigue she faces when riding a standard bike.

Since receiving her new wheels, Aspen has been eagerly practicing with her dad, gearing up for their first family bike adventure. We are incredibly grateful to the Gold Coast Community Fund for their kindness and generosity and look forward to seeing more of the amazing work they continue to do.
